Events/Parades & Security measures in the French Quarter in Feb. 2017

Mardi Gras French Quarter entry passes are now available at the Eighth District Police Station (334 Royal Street). Please provide a letterhead stating how many vehicle passes you will need. For more information, call 504-658-6080.

Saturday, Feb. 11th

  • Krewe du Vieux will roll through the French Quarter at 6pm. Click here for the new
  • Krewe du Vieux will be followed by Krewe Delusion. Click here for the route (which differs from Krewe du Vieux’s).

Sunday, Feb. 12 – Wednesday, Feb. 14

FQBA staff will be out of town for a tourism conference with little or no access to email.

Friday, Feb, 17 – Sunday, Feb. 19, NBA All Star Weekend

  • NOPD will do an exterior vehicle closure of the French Quarter from 5pm to 5am. Employees, hotel/dinning guests, and residents will be allowed in; no entry passes are required. (For example, an Uber/Lyft/taxi may enter the French Quarter simply by telling the officer they have dinner reservations.)
  • Bourbon Street will become a pedestrian mall from 5pm to 5am on 2/17 – 2/19. Bourbon Street will be blocked off from Canal Street to Dumaine Street (100 to 800 blocks). Additionally all cross streets leading to Bourbon Street will be blocked (i.e. the Royal and Dauphine Street intersections from Canal to Dumaine Streets). NO VEHICLES MAY PASS THROUGH.
  • Expect heavy mixed force (NOPD, LSP, K9, mounted, special operations personnel, etc.) coverage throughout the French Quarter the entire weekend.
  • Light towers, temporary security cameras, law enforcement sky towers, etc. will be placed along the streets of Canal, Decatur, Bourbon, and Poydras, as well as scattered throughout the French Quarter.

Friday, Feb, 17

  • The Krewe of Cork walking krewe will parade through the French Quarter at 3pm. Click here for the route.

  • The Krewe of Cleopatra will roll at pm; Canal Street will be affected. Click here for the route.

Saturday, Feb. 18

  • The Krewe of Ponchatrain will roll at 1:10pm; Canal Street will be affected. Click here for the route.

  • The Krewe of Freret will roll at 2:30pm; Canal Street will be affected.

Wednesday, Feb. 22 – Tuesday, Feb. 28

  • NOPD will do an exterior vehicle closure of the French Quarter from 5pm to 5am. Employees, hotel/dinning guests, and residents will be allowed in.  (For example, an Uber/Lyft/taxi may enter the French Quarter simply by telling the officer they have dinner reservations.)
  • Depending on manpower, NOPD will possibly do a 24-hour exterior vehicle closure of the French Quarter from Friday (2/24) through Tuesday (2/28).
  • Bourbon Street will become a pedestrian mall from 5pm-5am from 2/22 – 2/28. Bourbon Street will be blocked off from Canal Street to Dumaine Street (100 to 800 blocks). Additionally all cross streets leading to Bourbon Street will be blocked (i.e. the Royal and Dauphine Street intersections from Canal to Dumaine Streets). NO VEHICLES MAY PASS THROUGH.

  • Royal Sonesta Hotel’s 47th Annual Greasing of the Poles will begin at 10am at the main entrance of the hotel (300 Bourbon Street).
  • The Krewe of Bosom Buddies & Breast Friends walking krewe will parade through the French Quarter at 11:30am. The route is up Bourbon, right on St. Ann, right on Royal, right on Bienville, and right on Bourbon to disband at Conti and Bourbon.

  • Pete Fountain’s Half-Fast Walking Club will parade through the French Quarter at 7:45am.
  • The Mondo Kayo Social & Marching Club will parade through the French Quarter at 7:45am. The krewe will begin at Third Street and Magazine Street.
  • Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club will roll at 8am; Canal Street will be affected. Click here for the route.

  • The Society of Saint Anne walking krewe will parade through the French Quarter at 10am. The parade starts at Bud Rip’s in the Bywater on Burgundy Street. The march continues through the French Quarter to Canal Street to watch the Rex Parade, and then returns into the French Quarter.
  • The KOE walking krewe will meet in front of Louis Cathedral and parade through the French Quarter at 10:15am.
