A two-hour group Philosophical discussion of a specific topic, facilitated by the not-for-profit New Orleans Lyceum. The event takes place at the Cafe de l'Opera at the Inn On Bourbon, 541 Bourbon Street.

What is a philosophy cafe? It's an opportunity to actually "do philosophy" in a fun, conversational manner without reading heavy texts or listening to ponderous lectures. The goal of this discussion is not to come up with definitive solutions to philosophical quandaries but to demonstrate, by interaction, how complex and interesting concepts can be when they are applied specifically and generally.

The tradition of philosophical conversation goes back to the ancient philosophers of Greece and maybe earlier. This tradition became famous again in the salons of the French Enlightenment of the 18th Century and in Paris after the Second World War.

Scheduled for the third Thursday of every month at the Inn On Bourbon, these 90 minute sessions are open to any interested adults.

Established in 2003 by David O’Donaghue, Psy.D., the New Orleans Lyceum consists of a group of independent scholars who teach yoga, history, poetry and other artistic activities to local adults. The organization also presents film screenings and
discussions at the Inn On Bourbon.

Special $5 parking at The Inn On Bourbon is extended to all guests attending the performances.
