Sylvain Preview - Thursday, September 9th...On May 22nd, 1796, Jean-Francois-Marmontel and Andre Getry’s one-act comic opera Sylvain was performed in New Orleans. Residents hungry for something culturally rich, inventive and unpredictable were captivated by the performance. That same year, construction was completed on a three-story carriage house at what is now 625 Chartres Street by local landmark developer Don Andres Almonaster y Roxas.Over the past year, the building has been restored with painstaking detail and will now house Sylvain - a unique and sophisticated restaurant concept. By celebrating the city’s storied past as well as creating a menu and design aesthetic that blends both the past and future, Sylvain will provide an oasis of style and quality for neighboring Quarter residents and business owners. From dining on elevated bistro classics to enjoying a wine program and cocktail menu that leans toward the classics while embracing the resurgence of cocktail culture, guests will savor the restaurant’s unspoiled rawness and modern luxury.Sylvain welcomes French Quarter residents and business owners to preview the space at 625 Chartres Street during an open house being held on Thursday, September 9th between noon and 4:00 pm. Owners Sean McCusker and Robert LeBlanc will be there to walk guests through the space and answer any questions about the restaurant, the building's history and special event opportunities.
