The Historic New Orleans Collection is proud to host a book signing and talk with the son of long-time civil rights activist and attorney A. P. Tureaud (1899–1972), who is the co-author of “A More Noble Cause: A. P. Tureaud and the Struggle for Civil Rights in Louisiana.” Written with Rachel L. Emanuel, director of publications and electronic media at Southern University Law Center, “A More Noble Cause” provides insight into the senior Tureaud’s public struggles and personal triumphs.
Throughout the decades-long legal battle to end segregation, discrimination and disfranchisement, Tureaud was one of the most influential figures in Louisiana’s courts. “A More Noble Cause” is both the powerful story of one man’s lifelong battle for racial justice and the very personal biography of a black professional and his family in Jim Crow–era Louisiana. Both Tureaud Jr. and Emanuel will be in attendance to discuss and sign the book. Copies of the book will be available for purchase in The Shop at the Collection for $35. This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are suggested and may be made by calling (504) 598-7171. Visit www.hnoc.org for more information. |
