Krewe of Brid, 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 6

The Krewe of Brid, Lakeview's all-female marching club, will make its second annual march with the sports theme: "Brid's Got Balls." The march starts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009. The route begins on Harrison Avenue at the Orleans Avenue Canal and proceeds on Harrison Avenue to Milne Boulevard, then returns on Harrison Avenue to the Orleans Avenue Canal.

Three local women have been selected to represent the Three Goddesses Brid:

Phyllis Montana-LeBlanc, Brid of the Spirit - Goddess of Arts & Letters
Phyllis showed her amazing moxie in Spike Lee's documentary about the 2005 levee failures. Her account of her experiences during and since the 2005 levee failures, Not Just the Levees Broke, was published August 2008. Phyllis inspires to us all to stay strong and to keep focused on what is most important: faith, hope and love.

Michelle Douglas, Brid of the Hearth - Goddess of Home & Hearth
After the levees failed, Michelle spent countless hours working with Hynes School's faculty, parents and community leaders to charter the school and find a place to hold classes. Now Hynes' Principal, she has expanded the school's programs adding art therapy, band, and other activities. Michelle is dedicated to nurturing our children's minds and their spirits.

Nicole Barron, Brid of the Forge - Goddess of Strength & Justice
Nicole's efforts to rebuild her home in Holy Cross extend far beyond her front door. With a smidge of luck and a ton of perseverance, Nicole rebuilt her own historic home - the first and only home she has ever owned. She now draws on her bottomless well of enthusiasm to encourage others preserve and live in historic homes. Nicole is a true champion of New Orleans' neighborhoods and unique architecture.
