Events/Parades & Security measures in the French Quarter in Feb. 2018

Mardi Gras French Quarter entry passes are now available at the Eighth District Police Station (334 Royal Street). Please provide a letterhead stating how many vehicle passes you will need. For more information, call 504-658-6080.

Please see the events/parades and security measures planned for the French Quarter this month below. Note: the French Quarter side of Canal Street (North bound) will have the right lane open for vehicular traffic.

Friday, Feb. 2^nd – Sunday, Feb. 4^th

• Bourbon Street will become a pedestrian mall from 5pm-5am from Friday (2/2) – Sunday (2/4). Bourbon Street will be blocked off from Canal Street to Dumaine Street (100 to 800 blocks). Additionally all cross streets leading to Bourbon Street will be blocked (i.e. the Royal and Dauphine Street intersections from Canal to Dumaine Streets). NO VEHICLES MAY PASS THROUGH.

Friday, Feb. 2^nd

• The Krewe of Cork walking krewe will parade through the French Quarter at 3pm. Click here for the route.

Tuesday, February 6^th

• The inaugural Krewe du Kanaval will parade through Treme at 2pm; Rampart and Toulouse Streets will be affected (5:15-7pm rolling street closures). Click here for more information.

Wednesday, Feb. 7^th – Tuesday, Feb. 13^th

• NOPD will do an exterior vehicle (soft) closure of the French Quarter from 5pm to 5am from Wednesday (2/7) – Thursday (2/8). Employees, hotel/dinning guests, and residents will be allowed in. (For example, an Uber/Lyft/taxi may enter the French Quarter simply by telling the officer they have dinner reservations.)
• NOPD will do a 24-hour exterior vehicle (soft) closure of the French Quarter from Friday (2/9) – Tuesday (2/13). Employees, hotel/dinning guests, and residents will be allowed in. (For example, an Uber/Lyft/taxi may enter the French Quarter simply by telling the officer they have dinner reservations.)
• Bourbon Street will become a pedestrian mall from 5pm-5am from Wednesday (2/7) – Tuesday (2/13). Bourbon Street will be blocked off from Canal Street to Dumaine Street (100 to 800 blocks). Additionally all cross streets leading to Bourbon Street will be blocked (i.e. the Royal and Dauphine Street intersections from Canal to Dumaine Streets). NO VEHICLES MAY PASS THROUGH.
• Depending on pedestrian traffic, NOPD may hard close Bourbon Street to vehicular traffic earlier in the day (1-2pm) on Friday (2/9). Please inform and coordinate with delivery services.
• Expect heavy mixed force (NOPD, LSP, K9, mounted, special operations personnel, etc.) coverage throughout the French Quarter.
• Light towers, temporary security cameras, law enforcement sky towers, etc. will be placed along the streets of Canal, Decatur, Bourbon, and Poydras, as well as scattered throughout the French Quarter.

Wednesday, Feb. 7^th

Friday, Feb. 9^th

• Royal Sonesta Hotel’s 48^th Annual Greasing of the Poles will begin at 10am at the main entrance of the hotel (300 Bourbon Street). Click here for more information.
• The Krewe of Bosom Buddies & Breast Friends walking krewe will parade through the French Quarter at 11:30am. The route starts at St. Louis and Bourbon, travels down Bourbon, turns right on St. Ann, turns right on Royal, turns right on Iberville, turns right on Bourbon, and right disband at Conti and Bourbon.
• The Divine Protectors of Endangered Pleasures walking krewe will parade in the French Quarter at 1pm.

• Pete Fountain’s Half-Fast Walking Club will parade through the French Quarter at 7:45am.
• The Mondo Kayo Social & Marching Club will parade through the French Quarter at 7:45am. Canal and Rampart Streets will be affected, along with Jackson Square.
• Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club will roll at 8am; Canal Street will be affected. Click here for the route.

• The Society of Saint Anne walking krewe will parade through the French Quarter at 10am. The parade starts at Bud Rip’s in the Bywater on Burgundy Street. The march continues through the French Quarter to Canal Street to watch the Rex Parade, and then returns into the French Quarter.
• The KOE walking krewe will meet in front of Louis Cathedral and parade through the French Quarter at 10:15am.
