Exploratory Trenching & Road Closures on 600-700 blocks of Conti Street: October 7-28, 2019

The City is in the process of designing a full reconstruction project of Conti Street between Bourbon and Chartres streets.  Ahead of construction, the city’s contractor will begin exploratory trenching in multiple locations per block to verify the location, depth and size of the utility lines underneath Conti Street.  Exploratory trenching will take approximately three weeks to complete and includes the following:

  • Three large excavations from property line to property line per block – includes removal, replacement of sidewalks, curbs, pavement, etc.;
  • NOTE: Excavations will be filled with temporary asphalt pavement.
  • NOTE: The block will not be fenced off; however, open trenches will be surrounded by orange fencing /cones.
  • NOTE: There will be continuous access to ALL businesses during exploratory trenching operations.

The anticipated schedule is:

October 7 – October 16:  600 Block

October 17 (following completion of 600 Block) – October 28: 700 Block

Expect intermittent road and sidewalk closures, construction equipment, limited parking availability, elevated noise levels, dust, and continuous vibration monitoring.
