“What Businesses Should Know after the Recent Heavy Rainfall and Flooding in the City”

City of New Orleans officials are resuming damage assessments and building inspections this week related to the July 10, 2019 heavy rain event. If your business experienced flooding greater than 12 inches or if any electrical or mechanical equipment had water, please call the Department of Safety and Permits at 311. If you need help mucking and gutting, call the Crisis CleanUp Hotline at 1-844-965-1386. Local community organizations are available to assist. Given the large amount of recent rainfall, it is imperative for everyone to remain vigilant in removing standing water by emptying containers and changing water in containers that cannot be removed. Mosquitoes can develop from egg to adult in seven-day period in warmer months, so it is important to inspect property on a weekly basis. Remove trash and clutter, including discarded tires, buckets, tarps and any other items that could collect water. Make sure swimming pools and fountains are operational and circulating.

Small and large businesses are reminded that they are not eligible for removal of bulky waste or disaster related debris by the City or its contractors. Any debris generated by a contractor for residential or commercial properties is also ineligible for collection by the City. Private arrangements must be made for collection and disposal.
