The State of Louisiana, in special session, enacted a new 1 percent sales tax, increasing the normal state sales tax rate from 4% to 5%. (This does not include local sales tax rates). In addition, many current sales tax exemptions have been suspended beginning April 1, 2016. The suspension may be in full, in part, or not at all. The Louisiana Department of Revenue has issued a document that lists all of the current sales tax exemptions, and how they will be handled going forward: http://revenue.louisiana.gov/Publications/R%201002A.pdf. Please, consult your sales tax advisor about these changes.
