Drive-up Food Pantry for Hospitality and Gig Economy Workers Extended During Stay-at-Home Order (4.3.2020)

In partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, Evacuteer and Culture Aid NOLA, District “C” Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer will continue offering meals and non-perishable food items for hospitality and gig economy workers affected by COVID-19 as the stay-at-home order remains in place. On Thursday, Governor John Bel Edwards extended the stay-at-home order until April 30. The drive-up food pantry will be available every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday during the month of April.

“There is nothing more important at this time than helping our neighbors. The food pantry is really a testament of collaboration and partnership, and what we can accomplish if we work together during a crisis. Providing food and meals to hospitality workers and families who are facing hardships would not be possible without the Second Harvest Food Bank and volunteers from Evacuteer, Culture Aid NOLA and several neighborhood leaders from Algiers, Bywater, Marigny and the French Quarter. I am very grateful for these individuals and organizations, and their assistance,” said Councilmember Palmer.

Since the food pantry began two weeks ago in District C, more than 5,000 meals and pantry boxes have been distributed to families across the City. As the need continues to grow, residents are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items during the drive-up food pantry. Monetary donations to sustain emergency relief food efforts can be made here or email  help@secondharvest.org.
