French Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project, Phase 2: Friday, May 24, 2019

The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works and Sewerage & Water Board began a full reconstruction project on Bourbon Street from St. Louis to Dumaine streets (500-800 blocks) on September 17, 2018. Work is occurring sequentially from the 500 – 800 blocks, with ONLY one block fenced off at a time throughout construction.  All businesses along this corridor are open and accessible throughout construction.

The City is more than fifty percent complete with the project; the contractor has fully reconstructed the roadway between St. Louis and Orleans streets (500-700 blocks) with upsized drainage, a better sewer system, new sidewalks and new, smoother pavement.  Additionally, the lighting and security have been upgraded between St. Louis and St. Peter streets.  Entergy Gas and Entergy Electric have also completed upgrades to their services in those blocks.

The $9.5 million cost-shared project, which is anticipated to run through September 2019, was designed by Mott McDonald, LLC and is being constructed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC.  Project partners include Entergy Electric, Entergy Gas, Cox Communications and AT&T.

Entergy Electric & Gas
Entergy Electric is working in the 800 block near Dumaine Street.  Entergy Gas will resume work on individual services in the 800 block on Tuesday, May 28.  New gas services calls for work from property line to property line.  Public safety is the top priority; expect closures of Bourbon in the 800 block between 8:00 am and sunset seven days per week.  Extended work hours are possible.  As usual, Entergy will accommodate the public, businesses, and deliveries to the best of their ability.
